Maximising Return on Investment for Learning Activities

 

Recent CIPD studies suggest that only 10% to 30% of training has any tangible impact upon organisational performance.

Shocking? Yes.  Surprising? Not really.

Peak performance is dependent upon two key factors: the ability to perform a task and the motivation to do it well.  Therefore, for lasting improvements, any development programme should give delegates both the ‘how’ – the skills and techniques – and the ‘why’ – the incentive to make positive behavioural changes.

When developing leaders, the same principle applies.  It is essential to understand delegates’ barriers to truly inspirational leadership before specific techniques are introduced.  The UK Learning Network ‘five steps to inspirational leadership’ is an excellent template for development programmes:
